Determinasi Motivasi Intrinsik dan Ekstrinsik terhadap Keputusan Pemilihan Program Studi Pendidikan Tinggi pada Siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas
Abstract
A student's decision regarding their major in higher education constitutes a pivotal milestone that heavily impacts future academic achievement, career trajectory, and overall life satisfaction. Choosing a field of study that corresponds to individual interests, aptitudes, academic performance, future aspirations, and familial backing reflects a high degree of congruence between personal potential and academic disciplines. This study aims to evaluate the impact of student motivation on major selection in higher education. Utilizing a mixed-methods design, the findings reveal that student decision-making is driven by two main dimensions: intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation encompasses personal interest, innate talent, career aspirations, and prior academic achievements. Conversely, extrinsic motivation involves family support, peer influence, institutional reputation, school environment, and the strategic guidance provided by school counselors and student affairs coordinators. Consequently, both internal drives and external influences play a crucial role in shaping students' academic choices in higher education
